Rationale:
About 80% of Americans have had or will have back pain and back issues at some point in their lifetime according to the National Institute for Neurological Disorders. Of that, about 20% of those who suffer, their pain will turn into a chronic condition which can be caused by a myriad of reasons such as on the job injuries, arthritis, herniation, bulging discs, sciatica, stenosis and spondylolisthesis to name a few. One in three adults claims that back pain affects their daily life. With any chronic pain, people need to learn what they can do to alleviate their suffering so they can live a more active and pain-free lifestyle, so life is more enjoyable.

Objective for Course:
Creating a healthy low back: A four-week program designed to help with low back problems and maintaining a healthy spine by using yoga techniques. In this course, you will learn simple exercises to help alleviate some of your symptoms. We will focus on how you can help your chronic pain as well as how you can maintain a healthy back by learning certain yoga techniques that build strength, allow joints to move in their natural range of motion and stretch muscles through breath work and asanas (poses). The sessions will also include what NOT to do for certain conditions. You will also learn postural alignment to help maintain a healthy back. You will be given a sheet of poses at the end of each class to bring home and practice to build upon what you have learned each week.
